Flu

Same-day diagnosis and treatment for influenza — plus annual flu shots to keep you and your family protected every season.

Flu

Influenza — commonly known as the flu — is a highly contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that can range from mild to severe. At Blue Water Primary Care, we offer same-day evaluation and treatment for flu symptoms, as well as annual flu vaccinations to help prevent infection in the first place.

Flu symptoms typically come on suddenly and include fever, chills, body aches, fatigue, sore throat, cough, and headaches. Some patients also experience nasal congestion, vomiting, or diarrhea. While most healthy adults recover within one to two weeks, the flu can be serious — and even life-threatening — for young children, seniors, pregnant women, and those with underlying health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease.

When you come in with flu-like symptoms, our providers will evaluate you thoroughly, perform a rapid flu test when appropriate, and recommend a treatment plan. Antiviral medications such as oseltamivir (Tamiflu) can reduce the severity and duration of illness when started within the first 48 hours of symptoms, so early evaluation matters.

The single most effective way to prevent the flu is annual vaccination. We strongly encourage all patients — particularly those in high-risk groups — to get their flu shot each fall. Walk-in flu shots are available during regular office hours. Most insurance plans cover flu vaccinations at no cost to the patient.
